In Episode 3 of our ProVideoPage Webinar & Podcast Series, I was joined by Shelley Martinez, an inspiring life alchemy coach from Rio Rancho, NM. Shelley specializes in helping women overcome emotional roadblocks using hypnotherapy and practical skills. I was impressed with the science behind these skills and how well they reduce stress and provide relaxation during the workday.

Four Techniques – Shelley shared four powerful relaxation techniques that take five minutes or less:

1. Diaphragm Breathing (Pancake Breathing): Inhale deeply through your nose, expanding your diaphragm like pancake batter spreading in a pan. Exhale through pursed lips. Do this for a few breaths to quickly calm your body and mind.

2. Peripheral Vision Technique: Soft focus on a spot in front of you, sense your peripheral vision, the space around your ears, and the back of your head. Hold for 10 seconds to reset your brain and stop stressful thoughts.

3. Passing Object Technique: Pass a small object across your nose back and forth to create a rhythmic sensation that calms your brain’s hemispheres, reducing emotional storms in about 60 seconds.

4. Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping): Tap on specific body points while saying a target phrase like “I’m letting go of the stress right now.” This reduces stress hormones and promotes relaxation.

Practice Makes Perfect: Shelley emphasizes the importance of regular practice to make these techniques effective and achieve a calmer, more peaceful existence. Practice them daily to manage stress proactively and maintain a lower baseline stress level.
